The Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill (No 2) is due to be passed later this year.
Standards New Zealand developed a new standard for the Testing and decontamination of methamphetamine. A copy is available on their website: NZS8510:2017 Testing and decontamination of methamphetamine contaminated properties.
The standard will be referenced in the legislation/regulations and will become legally enforceable when the Bill is passed.
The most significant change is the new 1.5µg/100cm2 limit. The change is due to a better understanding of the health risks.
Landlords will have the right to test for meth and enables tenancy agreements to be terminated when levels are unsafe.
